Why Visit Ha Giang?
Ha Giang province in Vietnam’s far north is home to the country’s most dramatic mountain scenery. The Ha Giang Loop — a 300km motorbike route through towering limestone peaks, deep valleys, and remote ethnic villages — is considered one of Southeast Asia’s greatest road trips. Less developed than Sapa, Ha Giang offers raw, authentic mountain culture.
Best Time to Visit Ha Giang
September–November: Golden rice terraces, clear skies. Best overall.
March–May: Blooming season — peach blossoms and wildflowers across the mountains.
December–February: Cold, misty, occasional snow. Dramatic landscapes but challenging road conditions.
June–August: Green mountains but heavy rain. Landslide risk on mountain passes.
The Ha Giang Loop
The classic loop takes 3–4 days by motorbike, starting and ending in Ha Giang city. Key stops include Dong Van (ancient town), Meo Vac (Sunday market), Ma Pi Leng Pass (one of Vietnam’s most scenic mountain passes), and the Nho Que River canyon. You can ride yourself or hire an experienced local driver (recommended for safety).
